I started looking at the new blu ray releases each week ever since I bought a Sony PS3 and noticed that movies are coming out that arent "meant" for blu-ray.
The highlight for this week is Dakota Fannings Hounddog.
This movie is a drama set in the American South, where a precocious, troubled girl finds a safe haven in the music and movement of Elvis Presley.
When hearing the description, how the hell does anyone think this is perfect for blu-ray?
Dakota in HD?
I bought W. on blu ray recently when it came out and thought the same thing to myself...Do I really need Josh Brolin in hi-def...a drama about George W. Bush in Blu-Ray format!?! I've fallen victim to buying movies that should be labeled "Bad Blu Ray Movies" even if they arent the worst films out.
I love Tommy Boy with Chris Farley but do I really need the new hi-def version? "Fat Man in a littel coat" wont be any funnier in 1080p!
I actually have seen a difference with certain animated films. Most people argue that animation can not be enhanced in blu-ray...I am slightly disagreeing. Check out the Disney 1950's classic when you get the chance...It blows any Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, and Nicolas Cage blu rays out of the water.
The worst films on blu ray right now are dramas and romantic comedies with basic art direction and no real scenery to look at...Also the Saw films...hi Def blood and dark rooms with terrible, absolutley terrible story lines and acting!!
The fuckin Pelican Brief with Denzel and Julia Roberts just came out...anyone rushing to the store to buy this one for "I am blown away" graphics? Maybe you can see the food in between Julia Robert's giant gums and teeth.
Studios have to rethink which films are priority for blu ray releases before our collections look like our DVD collections and have no real focus on movies that represent the true purpose of hi-def.
Everyone should own Planet Earth and Dark Knight on blu ray right now and not movies like Sex in the City and My Best Friends Girl...Do consumers need to see Sarah Jessica Parkers ugly face and giant oily nose in perfect quality? I know I dont.
