Anyone remember Heart and Souls starring Robert Downey Jr.? That's pre-Iron Man for you kids.

Heart and Souls is a 1993 fantasy/comedy film about the souls of four deceased people who are trapped on earth and can only be seen by a single living human being who is recruited to help them take care of their unfinished business.


The movie tanked and the evil studio execs probably thought no one remembered it. So they commissioned a screenwriter to remake it (whether they like to call it that or not!), now called GHOST TOWN:

In the comedy "Ghost Town," Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear), who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni). That puts Pincus squarely in the middle of a triangle, with spirited results.

I don't know what Greg Kinnear is doing in this because he's sleepwalking through the same cornball role he's done better in other movies so he's just picking up a paycheck here.

David Koepp, a frequent collaborator with Speilberg, wrote and directed the movie. What the fuck is a talented guy like Ricky Gervais doing in a movie like this? What is ANYONE doing in a movie like this? This is why this blog exists- because Hollywood and the fucking dumbass studio execs think we're the dumbasses, that we'll pay to see the same shit over and over. And just for Ricky taking his big American movie vehicle and turning in this piece of shit, he gets a week in the Outhouse.
