There's nothing worse than a movie star backing up his movie at the last minute, knowing the sound of doom is just a few days away. Ok, thats probably not the worst thing ever, but it's funny how much one tries to soften the blow. Despite Bablyon A.D. not being screened for critics, no movie premiere, the director slamming the American version, the movie coming out at the dead end of summer and the general public unaware that VD was still in the movie business, you can't blame Diesel for being a trooper, sticking up for his failure of a movie:
Leaving the TRL studios, Diesel said, "Babylon A.D. isn't some red-headed stepchild that you throw out with the bath water. It's a rip roaring good time with explosions and me and some more explosions. I'm not going to disown it anytime soon. I'll be there on midnight Thursday night. " Diesel expressed a desire to record multiple commentary tracks for the DVD release and has began to brainstorm ideas for the sequel. Before hopping into his limo, Diesel confidentially stated, "I hope we can get Mathieu back for the sequel."
72 hrs later....
1 Tropic Thunder $14,602,121
2 Babylon A.D. $11,541,571
3 The Dark Knight $11,127,290
4 The House Bunny $10,177,701
5 Traitor $10,006,327
6 Death Race $7,889,755
7 Disaster Movie $6,945,535
8 Mamma Mia! $5,421,815
9 Pineapple Express $4,448,782
10 Vicky Cristina Barcelona $3,525,970
Unless B.A.D. (pun intended) has a huge following on DVD, I doubt a sequel is on the horizon. These days it seems like the fading star is all about sequels - Fast and Furious 4, XXX3, and another Riddick all the while trying to get funding for his long-gestating Hannibal movie.
And this boy is probably very upset that Vin made a comment about redhead stepchildren as this one was thrown out with the bathwater...
