The New Indiana Jones Reviews Reaction

After reading 20 reviews of Indiana Jones from Cannes, I have come to one realization...People dont know how to pretend they are young anymore. Why is it so hard? I read one reviewer who was like "I grew up with the original 3 so I was unsure of whether I liked the new one..." Why are reviewers comparing it to when they were younger? You are not young anymore and either is Indiana. I havent seen the movie yet but can tell you that the movie has Harrison Ford back as everyones favorite adventurer/treasure hunter/person with a fear of snakes and no one should complain. I know that the original 3 are classic movies that are still amazing to this day but there is no reason why any fan would not want the character that they grew up with back for another adventure. The Indiana character himself is great and even the first news of this sequel had me excited. I think positive first, then get into an open mind state like when I was 9 and then watch the movie. If you allow yourself to go back and pretend this is the first Indy adventure, you are sure to enjoy it. There is no reason to think negative, they didnt change Indiana Jones from Harrison Ford to Hayden Christensen. Real adventure films are rare these days so take Indiana 4 in with an open mind and allow movies like these to get made.

A lot of the negative reaction is simply because it's a bad film. I think the first half-hour illustrates a script in search of a story. Even Ford's one-liners were lame and not delivered with his usual zestful playfulness. Spielberg gave us an Indy without a McGuffin or any real goal.

I have to sadly agree. Something was missing from this movie and it definitely falls back on the writing. When Indy embarks on an adventure, there is usually great excitement in wondering where his adventure will take the audience. The audience in the past became part of the adventure and felt as though they were in for the ride with Indy and his crew. With the Skulls film, there isnt as much audience to film connections being made. There is nothing that makes you want to watch the film 400 times. Include these audience connections in at least a dvd directors cut and I might be happier. Please do not pursue Mutt Jones sequels.

I saw the last Indy movie when I was 11 years old and I just loved it. But what I saw here was not involving and gripping. Except for the jeep chase sequence, the movie rotted crazy.. I hope they dont make another sequel.

I actually agree with you on this, I didn't care for the movie the first two times I watched it, but now I'm thinking of it like, "Hey, it's a 2008 action movie...it's impossible to bring back that classic element apparently, but really, cheesiness aside, it was a decent movie". It doesn't tarnish the saga in my opinion. Let there be one more, GOOD film...but then end it for God's sake. No one needs the Mutt sequels.
